10K students attend ‘Splendor’


PROVIDENCE – Approximately 10,000 Rhode Island middle schools on Thursday attended a performance of “The Splendor of Mexico – A Celebration of Mexican Music & Dance” at the Providence Performing Arts Center on behalf a partnership between the theater and Bank of America.

“Continued support of the arts is a critical component of building strong, vibrant communities,” said William Hatfield, Bank of America Rhode Island market president, in a statement. “Our longstanding partnership with PPAC is all about access, and sharing their exceptional programming with the widest possible audience.”

During the 15-year partnership, more than 100,000 middle school students have attended PPAC performances. Prior to each outing, PPAC provides participating teachers with study guides to integrate the performance with classroom activities.

The program is mean to entertain, educate, and inspire student audiences.

Bank of America said in a press release that its commitment to corporate social responsibility is a strategic part of its global business.
