$1.25M gift set to help promote global health at UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is establishing an endowed professorship in global health with a $1.25 million gift from retired Rear Admiral Julia Plotnick.
The Julia and Harold Plotnick Endowed Professorship supports creation of a tenured position with a specialty in global health within the university’s College of Nursing, helping the chosen professor advance global health through innovative research and teaching methods.
A native of Fall River, Julia Hurley Plotnick graduated from St. Anne’s Hospital School of Nursing and built a career in public health that included serving as the U.S. Assistant Surgeon General and Chief Nurse Officer of the U.S. Public Health Service. Plotnick said she hopes future generations benefit from the “global perspective” the gift will promote. •
