The pharmaceutical industry is a smart career path for those who seek a high-paying job, and that’s especially true at Amgen Inc., the international giant with a campus in West Greenwich.
“Staff members can earn rewards that far exceed the industry standard,” said Tony Pankau, vice president for Rhode Island operations.
In addition to a strong salary, financial compensation includes generous cash bonuses distributed annually. The amount is based on the company’s performance and the staff member’s performance as well. The company’s long-term-incentive program rewards employees with a mix of restricted stock units, stock options, and performance units based on salary grade, job performance, critical skills and contributions to Amgen’s future success.
The company offers a strong benefits package. When staff members enroll in Amgen’s medical plan, they and their family members are covered automatically by the company’s prescription drug, vision and wellness plans.
There are nonmaterial rewards as well. As a pharmaceutical company, Amgen is dedicated to finding new ways to treat serious illness and improve people’s lives.
Workers take pride in delivering a reliable supply of Enbrel to patients. The drug is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, severe plaque psoriasis and other immune disorders. The Rhode Island facility also manufactures Vectibix, used for the treatment of colorectal cancer, as well as products used in clinical trials.
“Working at Amgen is much more than an opportunity to pursue a fulfilling career; it’s a chance to make a positive difference for millions of people,” said Pankau. •
