SEA CORP is no stranger to awards and honors: the Middletown company has been singled out for a number of them, from innovative research to fastest-growing, private company. It provides advanced technical and software services and products to clients within the defense and manufacturing industries, including the Navy’s submarines, and research and development of future technologies in support of the global war on terrorism.

Now marking its 30th anniversary, SEA CORP has “always been an employee-centric organization,” said Nancy Roderick, human services manager. The company prides itself on the mix of employees with varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

“When we started our company,” said CEO and founder Brian Gilligan, “our primary focus was to have the best people.” And to do that, “We always have to keep their needs at the top of our list of priorities.”

Knowledge and experience are vital in the industry, and SEA CORP has many senior recruits who are retiring from active naval service and government civil service. For those who want to cut back on their hours as they approach retirement stage, the company allows for part-time, on-call status.

A quarterly incentive program provides a one-for-one 401(k) match for eligible employees. “Kudos” for jobs well-done circulate throughout the company, highlighted in the SEA NOTES newsletter. Health care coverage is generous, with low copays and incentives to become part of a wellness program.

Then there are the social occasions: pot-luck breakfasts and lunches, impromptu celebrations and summer outings.

All underscore that “people are No. 1,” said Rich Talipsky, vice president of corporate development. •
