People who suffer burn injuries often have a challenging time getting back to living. The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors is the only national non-profit focused on helping them do exactly that.
This year the Phoenix Society's World Burn Congress, an annual international conference for burn survivors, their families and caregivers, health care professionals, fire service, will be in held in Providence, Rhode Island October 9-13, 2013. This life-changing event offers hundreds of burn survivors from several countries and those that care for them a supportive community and tools to heal and thrive again.
The Congress is attended largely by burn survivors and their families. Sixty percent of those registered will be attending for the first time and for some it will be their first experience traveling to a new community and in the public after their injury. The Phoenix Society's goal is to work with local businesses and your employees to provide information that will prepare you to welcome the attendees into your business during the week. We have received very positive feedback from local businesses when we provide a sensitivity training that includes the following topics;
Burn Injuries: What you need to know!
Appearance and Scar Management
Pressure Garments, splints and prosthetics
Impact on family and loved ones
What can I do?
Physical space and boundaries
Questions and discussion
