20th annual film festival sees return of forum

PROVIDENCE – During this year’s Rhode Island International Film Festival, the 20th annual celebration, the weeklong programming will once again include the Rhode Island Film Forum.

The forum is designed as a regionwide educational workshop introducing Rhode Islanders to independent film and encouraging film production in the state. In addition, a new Documentary Film Forum will be held this year as well as the ScriptBiz Screenwriting Workshop and KidsEye International Film Festival.

RIIFF is a weeklong celebration of independent cinema and is the largest film festival in New England credited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a qualifier for the Oscars in the Best Short, Best Documentary Short and Best Animated Short categories. In addition, it is one of 10 U.S. festivals accredited by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts as well as the Canadian Screen Awards.
