FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Twenty-six New Englanders, four of them from Rhode Island, have received awards totaling $200,000 from the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation for their volunteer work for various nonprofits.
The winners, including Rebecca Moniz of East Greenwich, who won a third prize of $5,000 for her organization, the Realtor Foundation Rhode Island, were honored earlier this month at Gillette Stadium during the 2015 Myra Kraft Community MVP Awards.
Each year, the Kraft family and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation host the awards program as part of the ongoing Celebrate Volunteerism initiative in honor of Myra Kraft’s example of being a lifelong volunteer.
Fifteen New England-based organizations were presented with $5,000 grants in honor of their volunteers’ work. Ten others received second-prize grants of $10,000 and one grand prize winner was presented $25,000.
Other Rhode Island winners included: Deirdre Carmody Millones of Narragansett, who won $10,000 for the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Wakefield; Corin Nava of Warwick, who won $5,000 for Project Sweet Peas in Warwick; and Alyssa Silva of Cumberland, who won $5,000 for Working on Walking in Cumberland.
“It is truly inspiring to hear the incredible stories of each Myra Kraft Community MVP Award winner,” said Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft. “Every volunteer has such a unique story about how they got involved in their community and it is very touching to learn about their impact.
“These individuals are making a lasting impact on a daily basis and we are excited to have the opportunity to thank each of them for their commitment,” he added. “This is truly one of my favorite programs and I know Myra would be proud of the work each of these volunteers are doing.”
Moniz works with military families to assist with housing related needs including rent, repair, moving and more. She offers advice on loans, insurance, loan modifications and helps to eliminate stress on families.
“This award means several military families will have the opportunity to stay in their homes,” she said. “The recognition that goes along with the award will bring awareness to the mission of the Realtor Troop Support Task Force and The Realtor Foundation Rhode Island, as we continue to assist our local active military families to attain, maintain and retain homes; before, during and after deployment.”
