‘4-Safety’ offering summer internship program; application deadline Jan. 31

PROVIDENCE – The “4-Safety” Program, a partnership between Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Dunkin’ Donuts, is offering a summer internship program that can be applied for through Jan. 31.
The program seeks to raise awareness and educate families about ways they can reduce their risk of injury and live healthier, safer lives.
Undergraduate or graduate students who live in or attend a college in Rhode Island or Bristol County are eligible to apply for the Dunkin’ Donuts Injury Prevention Scholars Internship, which offers a stipend and tuition for a course at Brown University.
The deadline for applications is Jan. 31.
Scholars learn about public health in the 10-week internship working with the 4-Safety staff, while taking a children’s health course at the Brown University School of Public Health. They’ll earn a stipend as well as full tuition payment for the course.
Nine scholars will be selected from the application pool. The internship runs from June 6 to Aug. 12.
Since the 2014 launch of the “4-Safety” program, Hasbro Children’s Hospital has brought its expertise into the community to raise awareness and educate families about ways they can reduce their risk of injury and live healthier, safer lives. The program focuses on the primary causes of childhood injuries, based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the experiences and expertise of the hospital’s emergency department.
The most common causes of unintentional injuries leading to death among children include motor vehicle crashes, falls, suffocation, drowning, poisoning, and fire- and burn-related injuries, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Topics featured to date include water safety, fire and burn safety, sports head injuries, bullying prevention and Back to School safety.
