75 honored in Worksite Health awards

PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce have recognized 75 companies from across the Ocean State in the 19th annual Worksite Health Awards, the organizations announced Wednesday.

The awards recognize businesses’ efforts at improving the health and wellness of Rhode Island’s employees and their families.

“Our Worksite Health Award winners are proof that it is possible to squeeze health and fitness into our busy lives,” Peter Andruszkiewicz, BCBSRI president and CEO, said in a statement.

“These organizations have succeeded in integrating health and fitness into their company cultures. They are a testament to the positive impact wellness can have on employee performance and, ultimately, on an organization,” added Adruszkiewicz.

Rhode Island’s businesses were invited to apply by submitting proof of health and wellness programs and health-oriented workplace policies, and winners were chosen based on the number, variety and impact of those health initiatives.

According to the release announcing the winners, some of the most impactful workplace policies including smoking cessation programming, flu shot clinics, blood pressure screenings and walking programs.

“This year’s Worksite Health Award winners have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to helping their employees improve their health and well-being,” Laurie White, president of the chamber, said in prepared remarks.

Thirty-five Rhode Island businesses earned top distinctions as the 2013 Exemplary Winners.
