This project rehabbed nearly 10,000 square feet in an Olneyville retail space on Hartford Avenue, transforming a vacated adult education center into classrooms and play areas for small children, with an adjoining office for a WIC center. Children’s Friend Head Start now has three classrooms for preschool children, all with age-appropriate bathrooms and access to an outdoor play area. The WIC suite includes a medical-technician room for examination of infants and children. An adjoining lactation-education room allows a consultant to meet privately with women. The two facilities are separated by a secure entry system which assures that adults visiting the WIC center do not enter the Children’s Friend area.
