Learn the story behind an iconic photo Sunday at Woonsocket’s Museum of Work & Culture. Lawrence Verria, a co-author of “The Kissing Sailor,” will share the details of the search for the identity of sailor George Mendonsa of Rhode Island who spontaneously kissed a nurse in Times Square in August 1945. A photo of the pair ran in Life Magazine after it was snapped by Alfred Eisentaedt shortly after news of Japan’s surrender in World War II was announced. “The Kissing Sailor,” the result of Verria’s and partner George Galdorisi’s research, details and solves the 67-year-old mystery.
