PROVIDENCE – Another week, another double-digit decline in gasoline prices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
AAA Northeast, in its latest gasoline survey, said that in Rhode Island, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.31 per gallon, down 10 cents from last week. Locally, prices are 45 cents lower than a month ago, but 17 cents more than the national average for regular unleaded at $2.14. A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was $1.22 higher at $3.53.
“Today’s survey signals five weeks of double-digit decreases, and 19 consecutive weeks of falling prices. So the downward trend certainly has significant momentum at this point,” Lloyd P. Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs at AAA Northeast, said in a statement.
Prices in the Ocean State range from $2.11 to $2.46, with average prices for grades of self-serve gasoline as follows: $2.61 for midgrade unleaded, $2.75 for premium unleaded and $3.05 for diesel.
In Massachusetts, gasoline prices dropped 11 cents from last week, with self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.26 per gallon. Locally, prices are 43 cents lower than a month ago, but 12 cents more than the national average. A year ago, the average price was $1.19 higher at $3.45.
Prices for different grades of gas in Massachusetts are as follows: $2.55 for midgrade unleaded; $2.69; premium unleaded; and $3.13, diesel.
AAA offered the following fuel tip: Lighten the load; don’t haul unnecessary weight in the passenger compartment, trunk or cargo area of your vehicle, as a heavier vehicle uses more gas.
