PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices have increased for the first time since November, climbing 3 cents from last week in Rhode Island, and 2 cents in Massachusetts, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA blamed the increase on a rebound in oil prices in addition to refinery slowdowns for seasonal maintenance, factors that led to a recent hike in gasoline prices nationally that has finally reached both Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $1.78 per gallon in the Ocean State. Rhode Island’s price is still 4 cents below the national average for regular unleaded of $1.82. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 68 cents higher at $2.46.
Prices range from $1.65 to $1.86 for regular, with midgrade unleaded at $2.06; premium unleaded at $2.26; and diesel, $2.02.

Massachusetts gasoline prices rose 2 cents from last week to an average of $1.71 per gallon for self-serve, regular unleaded.

The Massachusetts price is 11 cents below the national average. A year ago, the average price in Massachusetts was 75 cents higher at $2.46.
Bay State prices range from $1.55 to $1.99 for regular, with midgrade unleaded at $2.07; premium unleaded at $2.26; and diesel, $2.04.
