AAA: Gas prices drop again in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices dropped in Rhode Island and Massachusetts for the second week in a row, 4 cents and 9 cents, respectively, according to AAA Northeast.

Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.41 per gallon in Rhode Island. Though prices dropped 4 cents, they are 11 cents higher than a month ago, but 2 cents less than the national average. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $1.20 higher at $3.61.

Prices range from $2.19 to $2.59. Prices for other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.66 for midgrade unleaded, $2.78 for premium unleaded and $3.11 for diesel.

In Massachusetts, the average price for self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is $2.33. Locally, prices are 7 cents higher than a month ago, but 10 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $1.20 higher at $3.53.
Prices in Massachusetts range from $2.13 to $2.59. Prices for various grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.57 for midgrade unleaded, $2.69 for premium unleaded and $3.10 for diesel.
AAA offered the following fuel saving tip: Check the air filter at least twice a year. A dirty filter will reduce engine performance.
