AAA: Gas prices drop another 2 cents

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices are continuing to drop, falling another 2 cents from last week in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s weekly survey of prices in the Ocean State found self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.09 per gallon.

Locally, prices are 32 cents lower than a month ago, but the current price is 2 cents more than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.07. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $1.36 higher at $3.45.
Prices range from $1.97 to $2.24 for unleaded regular. Other self-serve gasoline prices are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.35; premium unleaded, $2.52; and diesel, $2.80.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.07 per gallon, a 30 cent drop from a month ago, and on par with the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $1.28 higher at $3.35.
Unleaded regular prices in Massachusetts range from $1.87 to $2.49, with prices for different grades of gasoline as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.37; premium unleaded, $2.49; and diesel, $2.83.
AAA offered a fuel saving tip: Keep track of gas mileage; if fuel economy decreases, a vehicle may not be operating at peak performance.
