PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island fell 3 cents from last week, and a penny in Massachusetts, AAA Northeast said Monday.
AAA said that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.15 per gallon in Rhode Island, and that prices are 6 cents lower than a month ago and 5 cents less than the national average. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was 96 cents higher at $3.11.
“Prices in Rhode Island have fallen in 16 of the last 17 weeks,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement. ”With supplies still strong and the busy driving season behind us, current conditions should lead to even lower prices as we head toward the end of the year.”
The lowest average price in Rhode Island this year was $2.09 set on Feb. 2.
Prices for unleaded regular range from $1.99 to $2.27, with midgrade unleaded at $2.46; premium unleaded, $2.64; and diesel, $2.49.
In Massachusetts, prices of self-serve, regular unleaded now match 2015’s low at $2.07 per gallon, previously set also on Feb. 2. Prices are 8 cents less than a month ago, and 13 cents less than the national average. A year ago at this time, Massachusetts’ average price was 98 cents higher at $3.05.
Prices of other grades of gasoline are as follows, midgrade unleaded, $2.42; premium unleaded, $2.59; and diesel, $2.54.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Avoid quick starts and sudden stop, as this wastes fuel, is harder on vehicle components and increases the odds of a traffic crash.
