AAA: Gas prices drop again in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices in Rhode Island fell 5 cents, and dropped 7 cents in Massachusetts, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s Sept. 8 price survey found that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.34 per gallon in Rhode Island. Locally, prices are 26 cents lower than a month ago, and 6 cents less than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.40. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.52.

Prices range from $2.15 to $2.57. Prices of other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.62, midgrade unleaded; $2.82, premium unleaded; and $2.65, diesel.

In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular gasoline is averaging $2.28 per gallon. Locally, prices are 25 cents less than a month ago, and 12 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $3.46.
Prices in the Bay State range from $2.06 to $2.89. Prices of other grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.58, midgrade unleaded; $2.77, premium unleaded; and $2.69, diesel.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Accelerate smoothly and brake gradually. It’s safer, uses less gas and reduces brake wear.
