AAA: Gas prices fall by a cent in R.I., hold steady in Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices dropped a cent from last week in Rhode Island, while prices in Massachusetts remained the same, according to AAA Northeast.

In Rhode Island, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.21 per gallon. Prices locally are 13 cents lower than a month ago, and 9 cents lower than the national average of $2.30. A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average gasoline price was more than a dollar higher, at $3.40.

Prices in the Ocean State range from $2.06 to $2.35, with midgrade unleaded averaging $2.50; premium unleaded, $2.69; and diesel, $2.55.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline held steady at $2.15 per gallon for the second week in a row. Prices in the Bay State are 13 cents less than a month ago, and $1.18 lower than they were a year ago. Prices range from $1.99 to $2.69, with midgrade unleaded at $2.49; premium unleaded, $2.70; and diesel, $2.55.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Roof-racks and storage boxes can dramatically reduce fuel economy. Remove crossbars and storage boxes when not in use.
