PROVIDENCE – Self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline prices plunged 4 cents in Rhode Island and fell 3 cents in Massachusetts from last week, according to AAA Northeast.

In Rhode Island, gasoline prices are averaging $2.76 per gallon. They are 3 cents lower than a month ago, and 2 cents less than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.78. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was almost a dollar more at $3.73.

“The recent drop in the price of crude oil has translated into savings for consumers at the gas pumps,” Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement. “Along with strong supplies, these lower prices are excellent news for families traveling during the height of the summer drive vacation season.”

Prices range from $2.63 to $2.89. Prices of other grades of gasoline are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $3; premium unleaded, $3.17; and diesel, $2.98.
