AAA: Gas prices fall in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Since last week, gasoline prices have fallen a cent in Rhode Island, and two cents in Massachusetts, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s Oct. 19 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.21 per gallon. Locally, prices are 5 cents less than a month ago, and 6 cents less than the national average for regular unleaded at $2.27. A year ago at this time, Rhode Island’s average price was $1 higher at $3.21, AAA said.

Prices range from $2.04 to $2.39. Other grades of gasoline are as follows: midgrade unleaded, $2.55; premium unleaded, $2.68; and diesel, $2.52.

In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.10 per gallon, 10 cents less than a month ago, and 17 cents less than the national average. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $1.08 higher at $3.18.

Prices in the Bay State range from $1.92 to $2.55, with midgrade unleaded at $2.43; premium unleaded at $2.61; and diesel, $2.51.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: To maximize fuel economy, check and adjust tire pressure once per month.
