PROVIDENCE – Travelers will experience the lowest gasoline prices since 2008 this week, as prices fell 3 cents from last week in Rhode Island, and decreased 1 cent in Massachusetts, AAA Northeast said Monday.
AAA said self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.14 per gallon in Rhode Island, and $2.08 in Massachusetts.
“With crude oil prices hovering at around $41 a barrel, Americans will be enjoying the lowest gas prices since 2008 as they travel this holiday week,” Lloyd P. Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public & government affairs, said in a statement. “Given the fundamentals related to refinery output, domestic gasoline inventories and current consumer demand, we anticipate that motorists will benefit from these lower pump prices through the end of the year and beyond, he added.”
Prices in the Ocean State are 4 cents lower than last month, but 6 cents higher than the national average of $2.08. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was 82 cents higher at $2.96. Prices in Rhode Island range from $1.99 to $2.29, with midgrade unleaded at $2.46; premium unleaded, $2.64; and diesel, $2.47.
Massachusetts’ self-serve regular unleaded gasoline price matches the national average. A month ago, the price also was $2.08, but a year ago, it was 80 cents higher at $2.88. Prices range from $1.93 to $2.49, with midgrade unleaded at $2.40; premium unleaded at $2.60; and diesel, $2.44.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Cars today do not need to be warmed up. Warming up a car for more than a few seconds just wastes fuel.
