PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices are ticking upward in Rhode Island and Massachusetts as the summer vacation season draws to a close, AAA Northeast said Monday.
“Higher crude oil prices are driving up numbers at the pump, but late summer travelers are still benefiting from gasoline prices significantly lower than at this time last August,” AAA’s Mary Maguire said in a statement.

In Rhode Island, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.16 per gallon, 2 cents higher than last week, while in Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded rose 3 cents to $2.08.
Prices are still lower than they were a year ago, when they hit $2.48 in Rhode Island and $2.41 in Massachusetts.
Prices in the Ocean State range from $1.99 to $2.29 for unleaded regular, with midgrade unleaded at $2.45; premium unleaded, $2.62; and diesel, $2.37.
In the Bay State, prices range from $1.89 to $2.59 for unleaded regular, with midgrade unleaded at $2.38; premium unleaded at $2.56; and diesel, $2.33.
