AAA Northeast: Gas prices decline again in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices fell 3 cents in Rhode Island and 4 cents in Massachusetts over the past week, according to AAA Northeast.

The Sept. 14 price survey found that self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.31 in Rhode Island and $2.24 in Massachusetts.

In both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, prices are 25 cents lower than a month ago. Rhode Island’s gas price is 3 cents less than the national average, while Massachusetts’ gas price is 10 cents less.
At this time a year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $3.49, and Massachusetts’ average price was $3.44.

Prices in Rhode Island range from $2.12 to $2.49. Prices of various grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.60, midgrade unleaded; $2.80, premium unleaded; and $2.61, diesel. In Massachusetts, prices range from $2.09 to $2.59. Prices of other gasoline grades in the Bay State are: $2.56, midgrade unleaded; $2.74, premium unleaded; and $2.63, diesel.

AAA offered the following fuel-saving tip: Lighten the load. Don’t haul unnecessary weight in the passenger compartment, trunk or cargo area of a vehicle. A heavier vehicle uses more gas.
