AAA Northeast: Gas prices drop in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – Gasoline prices dropped a penny in Rhode Island, and fell 4 cents in Massachusetts, ending a five week streak of rising gas prices, according to AAA Northeast’s weekly survey.

The survey found self-serve, regular unleaded is averaging $2.45 per gallon, down one cent from last week, in the Ocean State. Locally, prices are 20 cents higher than a month ago and 2 cents more than the national average for regular unleaded at $2.43. A year ago, Rhode Island’s average price was $1.16 higher at $3.61.
“There’s good news for motorists this morning as prices at the pump reverse direction. This welcome decrease reflects a dip in crude oil prices as well as robust supplies here in the U.S.,” Lloyd P. Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, said in a statement.
In Rhode Island, prices range from $2.28 to $2.60. Prices for various grades of gasoline are as follows: $2.66 for midgrade unleaded, $2.79 for premium unleaded and $3.24 for diesel.
In Massachusetts, self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline is averaging $2.42 per gallon, a drop of 4 cents from last week. Locally, prices are 20 cents higher than a month ago and a penny less than the national average for self-serve unleaded of $2.43. A year ago, the Massachusetts average price was $1.10 higher at $3.52.
Prices in Massachusetts range from $2.26 to $2.50, with prices of other grades of gasoline as follows: $2.59 for midgrade unleaded, $2.73 for premium unleaded and $3.21 for diesel.
