AAA releases FindMe app for AT&T customers

PROVIDENCE – AAA FindMe – an app that automatically shares stranded drivers’ locations with AAA Roadside Assistance – will roll out with full U.S. coverage for AT&T mobile customers in early 2013.
The app is free for AAA members who are also AT&T subscribers. The member benefit will allow stranded drivers to “get the help they need, where they need it, even if they aren’t exactly sure what street they are on or when they passed the last mile marker,” said a release from the trade group.
There are no additional charges, special devices or required downloads. Sprint subscribers can access use the app.
On the AT&T network, the app works through AT&T location information services, which provides busineses a set of application programming interfaces designed to gather and deal with location data.Using the APIs, AAA developer added AT&T to AAA FindMe to ping a customer’s location in the network and deliver the information seamlessly to AAA dispatchers.
“Experiencing car troubles in an unfamiliar location can be a stressful situation,” Marshall L. Doney, AAA National vice president of automotive, financial services and e-business, said in prepared remarks.
“By offering accurate geographic data the moment our members pick up the phone and dial for help, AAA and AT&T can provide more to its members and customers,” added Doney.
