NEWPORT – The Emmy-award winning ABC food show, “The Chew,” will air a segment Wednesday at 1 p.m. featuring co-host Carla Hall dining at well-known Rhode Island culinary institutions, according to a release by R.I. Commerce Corp.

Lara Salamano, chief marketing officer for Commerce RI, said broadcast media opportunities are always welcome when showcasing Rhode Island to the rest of the nation.

Filmed on Sept. 16, the segment includes stops at Watch Hill’s Ocean House and Newport’s Stoneacre Pantry. Rhode Island’s culinary education and training prowess was not overlooked, as Hall also made a stop at Johnson & Wales University’s Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence in Providence.

The list of culinary hotspots included in the segment was winnowed down from a larger list by Havas PR, Commerce RI and the staff at “The Chew. “

“We really wanted to showcase a little bit of everything,” said Salamano, “because we’re becoming a culinary capital of the world.”

The segment has been “in the works for eight months,” prior to Wednesday, Salamano explained. She added that when she came on board in July she was eager to bring the project to fruition.

As the state’s “shoulder” tourism season, fall, kicks into high gear, Salamano said, “this is still an amazing time here and we wanted to do something really big,” to show there are interesting things to do in Rhode Island all-year round.

As for future Rhode Island-based national television segments, Salamano said: “there’s a lot more in the pipeline where this came from.”
