ALA lauds volunteers

PROVIDENCE – During National Volunteer Appreciation Week this past week, the American Lung Association of the Northeast singled out one its 22,000 volunteers for helping further its mission.
Linda Angela, who lives in the city, is an association volunteer who has never let her personal obstacles, such as asthma, get in the way of helping others, said Daniel Bowler, event manager for the Fight for Air Climb Providence. Her passion to lose weight inspired her to participate in the climb, which was held in March at the Omni Providence Hotel, he said.
Angela helped promote and recruit the climb through the event committee. Her stair climb team, Bacon Breath, grew in 2015 and she personally recruited members for her team, he said.
“Linda’s commitment to our mission has been a great asset in making our Fight for Air Climb in Providence a success,” said Bowler. “Linda has devoted extra hours to recruiting new participants and spent time working with our staff to promote the event. We’re grateful to Linda for utilizing her connections at Brown University to … spread the word about our climb. We’re lucky to have her on the committee.”
“Each of our volunteers is a perfect example of how one person can make a difference,” added Jeff Seyler, the association’s president and CEO. “We could not do what we do without their support and we are thankful for them every day.”
