WESTERLY – The discount grocery ALDI will open its eighth store in Rhode Island, in the Franklin Shopping Plaza of Westerly, on Thursday.
The location, a former Shaw’s supermarket at 100 Franklin St., was renovated to feature high ceilings and environmentally friendly building materials, including energy-saving lighting fixtures and refrigeration, according to a company release.
The store is among 130 the company, based in Germany, anticipates opening in the United States over the next year. ALDI operates stores in communities including Providence, North Smithfield and Cranston.
