PROVIDENCE – A.T. Cross Co. has occupied its new space in The Foundry, a 42,000-square-foot building newly renovated to include both offices and a retail store.
The company, one of the oldest in Rhode Island, is eligible for $1.9 million in state incentives, including Rebuild Rhode Island tax credits, under a package approved by the R.I. Commerce Corp. that encouraged it to move from Lincoln to Providence, rather than a competing site in Connecticut.
The new space, 299 Promenade, was formerly occupied by Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island. It moved its headquarters to Smithfield earlier in 2016.
As Neighborhood Health Plan moved to the suburbs, A.T. Cross wanted a city location.
The company will move more than 100 employees to Providence, and is expected to expand its workforce over the next three years.
The retail store will allow consumers to shop for stationery, pen sets, cards and other materials.
A ribbon-cutting with Gov. Gina M. Raimondo, A.T. Cross CEO Robert P. Baird Jr., and state and city officials was held Wednesday.
