Affordable-housing project considered at Swansea Mall

SWANSEA – Town officials recently toured a 12-acre site at the Swansea Mall, where officials are considering a proposed affordable-housing project, The Herald News reported Feb. 27. Mall owners separated the site from their retail space a year ago.

The Rosewood Apartments project would require a $47.2 million investment to build 221 apartments within four 45-foot-high buildings.

Town Planner Steven Antinelli said the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency, known as MassHousing, needs to issue a letter of eligibility to enable Carlyle Development Group to file for the required Chapter 40B comprehensive permit from Swansea’s Zoning Board of Appeals to build the project.

In the coming weeks, Antinelli said he’ll ask town department heads for their recommendations, which Town Administrator John McAuliffe will coordinate in a letter to MassHousing. •
