Alex and Ani hits $30M mark in charitable division donations

CRANSTON – Charity by Design, the philanthropic arm of jewelry maker Alex and Ani LLC, has donated more than $30 million since its inception five years ago to more than 44 charitable organizations worldwide.

Each of the nonprofits selected by Charity by Design to be a partner focuses on themes like empowerment, sustainability, wellness, creativity or action as they create unique charms for bracelets accompanied by a “meaning card” that helps spread each nonprofit’s mission, Alex and Ani said in a press release.

Every Charity by Design charm bangle costs, to start, $28, of which Alex and Ani donates 20 percent back to the nonprofit, the company said in a press release.

An example of the many successful partnerships include the “Because I am a girl” charm bangle with Plan International USA, which, using “empowerment” as its message, helped more than 8,530 girls in developing countries out of poverty, the company said. And 5,627 children have been fed for an entire school year as a result of the benefits yielded from the “Completely blessed” charm bangle for the nonprofit Blessings in a Backpack.

“In five years, I have watched Charity by Design grow from our very first charm design with Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Rhode Island to the now 44-plus organizations that we partner with on a regional, national and global scale,” said Nicki M. Maher, senior vice president of Alex and Ani Charity by Design. “Today, we thank you, our amazing fans and supporters, as we celebrate the milestone of reaching more than $30 million in donations back to communities across the world.”

From Feb. 15 through Feb. 21, the company is celebrating its milestone and Charity by Design’s fifth anniversary by featuring videos, impact statements, blog posts and “other special content” on its website and apps. On the brand’s social media channels, followers will be encouraged to be part of the celebration and take action by using #PEACETOGETHER in order to raise awareness for nonprofits and the importance of giving back, the company said.
