Alex and Ani ranks 45th in country for job creation

Magazine's "Hire Power" ranking of the top 100 job creators in the country. Alex and Ani also led the Rhode Island "Hire Power" list, followed by Middletown-based Embrace Home Loans and software startup Swipely in Providence.

PROVIDENCE – Cranston jewelry retailer Alex and Ani has received an Inc. Magazine “Hire Power Award,” placing at No. 45 on the publication’s list of the top 100 job creators in the country.

Alex and Ani also claimed the No. 3 spot in the size category of companies with between 51 and 100 employees, and the No. 2 spot in the retail industry category.

In the last 18 months, Alex and Ani created 267 new jobs, bringing its total payroll to 330 employees, according to Inc. Magazine. The company, which designs and sells personalized jewelry and accessories, was the only Rhode Island business to crack the “Hire Power” top 100.

Alex and Ani also led the Rhode Island “Hire Power” list, followed by Middletown-based Embrace Home Loans and software startup Swipely in Providence.

Embrace Home Loans created 121 jobs in the last 18 months and now employs a total of 632 people, while Swipely created 45 jobs to bring its total to 72.

In addition to placing at No. 2 on the statewide list, Embrace Home Loans also ranked at No. 20 for job creation among all U.S. companies with between 501 and 1,000 employees, and at No. 10 in the financial services category.

After nearly doubling its workforce in the last year, Swipely continues to expand and is actively hiring sales representatives, account managers and visual designers at its Providence headquarters.

Other Rhode Island companies recognized in the Inc. Magazine statewide ranking were AmazingCharts.com (No. 4) of North Kingstown with 27 new jobs, Preventure (No. 5) of Coventry with 26 new jobs, A Child’s University (No. 6) of Cranston with 25 new jobs and G-Form (No. 7) of Providence with 20 new jobs.

A Child’s University, an early childhood education program for infancy through kindergarten, also placed at No. 4 nationwide in the education category.
