Amazon facility to open in September

FALL RIVER – An Amazon.com Inc. facility will open on Sept. 21, hiring 500 warehouse workers making $12.75 to $14.74 an hour.

A team from Amazon on July 6 held the first of four briefings in the city. It met with 200 people in the auditorium of B.M.C. Durfee High School to outline the jobs available and what the company will expect. Almost 1,000 people signed up to attend the briefings, according to a report in The Herald News.

Employees will be expected to work four 10-hour days a week, with a schedule that will include one weekend day. There will be day and night shifts and the center will be open 365 days a year, presenters said.

Health insurance will start on the first day of employment and workers will get stock, employee discounts and will be offered a 401(k) savings plan. There are also tuition-assistance programs for full- and part-time employees.
