PROVIDENCE – Several new buildings, homes and historic renovations were recognized in December by the Rhode Island chapter of the American Institute of Architects in its 2016 Design Awards. Nearly 60 projects were submitted for consideration.
The following projects received the highest rating of the honor award, according to AIA Rhode Island, which held its Dec. 1 awards ceremony at Linden Place in Bristol:
- Prospect Street Residence, Providence, KITE Architects Inc., honor award, residential category;
- Bryant University, Strength and Conditioning Center, Smithfield, Sasaki Associates, honor award, educational and institutional category;
- New Academic Center, St. George’s School, Middletown, Eyp Inc., honor award, educational and institutional category;
- Pet Food Experts corporate headquarters, Pawtucket, Vision 3 Architects, honor award, interiors category.
The following projects received merit awards:
- River House, Westport, Mass., Estes/Twombly Architects Inc., merit award, residential category;
- Mason’s House, Estes/Twombly Architects Inc., merit award, residential category;
- Briggs Marsh Studio, Little Compton, Estes/Twombly Architects Inc., merit award, residential category;
- SouthLight, Providence, James Beard Architects, merit award, educational/institutional category;
- Lila Delman Real Estate International, Providence offices, Northeast Collaborative Architects, merit award, historic preservation category;
- The Vets, Providence, Northeast Collaborative Architects, merit award, historic preservation category;
- International School of Kazan, President’s Primary School, Kasan Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation, Fielding Nair International, merit award, interiors category;
In people’s choice awards, bestowed based on website voting, the following projects were recognized:
- Runner Up, Rhode Island College School of Nursing, Providence, Brewster Thornton Group Architects.
Runner Up: NETA Regional Medical Marijuana Dispensary, Northhampton, Mass., Vision 3 Architects.
Winner: SouthLight, Providence, James Beard Architects.
