Amgen awards $25K for breast cancer

PAWTUCKET – The Amgen Foundation awarded the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation $25,000 to pay for the transportation and personnel costs of the Hope Bus, an RV used to conduct outreach to underserved women in Rhode Island.

Tony Pankau, vice president of Amgen’s Rhode Island operations, said one of the key goals of the Amgen Foundation is to increase the quality of care for the state’s residents, particularly for those who are unable to access care due to disparities or inequalities. The Hope Bus, he continued, “offers underserved women the support and education that proves so vital in breast cancer prevention and survival.”

The Hope Bus travels to hospitals, community centers, senior centers, businesses, and cultural events throughout the state, providing access to critical breast health education, support services, and screening programs.
