Amica employees stuff the bus with school supplies

Posted:

Employees at Amica Insurance Co.’s corporate headquarters recently collected enough school supplies to literally fill a bus.

Not a seat remained empty as nearly 3,800 school supplies were loaded onto a bus for distribution through TAPIN, or Touch a Person in Need, a volunteer outreach organization that provides services and resources to residents in Barrington, East Providence, Warren and Bristol.

Amica employee Dina Bastanzi, a TAPIN volunteer who suggested the fundraiser, said it was humbling to see her company come together for the cause.

The supplies collected included enough pencils, crayons, notebooks and more to fill about 380 backpacks.

“I am flabbergasted by the enthusiasm shown by Amica employees,” said Ann Wood, co-president of TAPIN. “It is way beyond what we at TAPIN expected.”

In addition to the supplies, employees also donated $1,620, which was collected through sales of promotional items. The donation will be used to purchase food for organization’s food closet.
