LINCOLN – For the third consecutive year, the Amica $75,000 Community Challenge surpassed its fundraising goal, raising more than $180,000.

The goal this year was $150,000.

Amica Mutual Insurance Co. partnered with Rhode Island Community Food Bank, United Way of Rhode Island and Crossroads Rhode Island for the Amica $75,000 Community Challenge that ended on March 7.

Since the challenge began two years ago, it has raised more than $500,000.

Through the challenge, people and businesses in the community were encouraged to make donations to the three charitable organizations from Jan. 28 through March 7, and Amica guaranteed to match those donations, for a total of $25,000 per charity.

Charities were chosen with three basic human needs in mind: food (Rhode Island Community Food Bank), heat (United Way of Rhode Island) and housing (Crossroads Rhode Island).

“I’m proud to be part of a community that so selflessly comes together to assist the less fortunate among us,” Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica, said in a statement. “On behalf of everyone at Amica, I would like to thank all those who helped make the challenge a success during this especially difficult winter.”

Representatives from the organizations also expressed gratitude.
“For the third year, the Amica $75,000 Community Challenge allowed the Food Bank to leverage gifts from our generous donors to help us acquire healthy, nutritious foods for families struggling to make ends meet,” Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, said in prepared remarks.
Anne Nolan, president of Crossroads Rhode Island, said that as a result of the challenge, Crossroads was able to more than double its donations this past month, allowing it to secure stable housing for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Said Anthony Maione, president and CEO of United Way of Rhode Island, “Together, we’ve supported countless Rhode Islanders struggling with tough choices this winter.”
