The Rhode Island Free Clinic was recently named the recipient of the three-year, $22,500 grant from the Amica Cos. Foundation. The funds will help the clinic purchase computers and software in order to provide better service to those without insurance.

Marie Ghazal, CEO of the Rhode Island Free Clinic, explained, “The new computers and software will help with medical records, scheduling and patient flow, helping to improve the efficiency of the clinic.”

The Rhode Island Free Clinic provides health care services to roughly 2,000 Rhode Islanders who are currently without health insurance. It is run by eight staff members, who work with 750 volunteer doctors, nurses and others.

“Amica is proud to support such an important organization that benefits our community,” said Bill Fitzgerald, senior vice president at Amica Mutual Insurance Co. and secretary of the clinic’s board of directors. “Amica’s grant will enhance the services that the physicians provide to their patients, which is the ultimate goal of the clinic.” •
