Amica gives $25K to Ready 365

PROVIDENCE – Amica Mutual Insurance Co. of Lincoln has contributed $25,000 to
Ready 365’s Home Fire Preparedness Campaign, in partnership with the American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region.
Ready 365 Giving Program members are businesses that value the local impact and global reach of the Red Cross. They work to deepen their commitment to the agency’s mission in an effort to save lives every day of the year.
“We’re grateful to Amica for this generous gift and for helping us to launch our Ready 365 program in this region,” said American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region CEO Mario Bruno. “Amica’s partnership is key in helping us educate communities on fire safety.”
Amica’s contribution will support American Red Cross emergency preparedness and response services in Connecticut and Rhode Island, in particular, with the goal of reducing injuries and deaths from home fires.
“This partnership represents a commitment by Amica to the health and safety of our customers and employees,” said Sean Welch, a vice president in Amica’s claims executive department and chairman of the Red Cross’ Rhode Island board. “We’re very proud to be part of the effort to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities caused by home fires.”
Bruno added that, through the campaign, the Red Cross works to help families be better prepared for the residential fires. Last year, the Red Cross responded to more than 1,000 local disasters in Connecticut and Rhode Island – most of them residential fires.
The Home Fire Preparedness Campaign will bring Red Cross volunteers into communities to educate residents about fire safety and fire escape planning, as well as to install smoke alarms free of charge.
“The presence of working smoke alarms in a home can cut in half the risk of dying in a fire,” Bruno said. “Early warning, combined with a personal escape plan, can provide the precious minutes a family needs to safely escape a fire.”
Through the partnership, Amica employees will have the opportunity to volunteer with the Red Cross. Amica will also share safety information and tips from the Red Cross during the campaign.
