Amos House named Champion in Action

PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank and WJAR-TV NBC10 have named Amos House in Providence as the 2010 first-quarter Champion in Action in the work force development category.

As part of the award, Amos House will receive a $25,000 grant and promotional and volunteer support from Citizens and NBC10 employees. The grant will be used for job training and to employ some of those seeking assistance from Amos House.

In announcing the honor, Citizens noted that Amos House has created an innovative job-training program that collaborates with local social services. The bank said the nonprofit’s mission has become a national model for work force development.

“This award will help Amos House to continue to provide opportunities for those who are looking to find and keep stable employment by giving them the training and tools they need to succeed,” said Ned Handy, president of Citizens Bank Rhode Island.

Champion in Action is a joint initiative of Citizens Bank and NBC10 launched five years ago to recognize and support nonprofit organizations for their contributions to Rhode Island communities. A new Champion in Action is selected each quarter among a range of social service topics.

The winner of the second-quarter 2010 Champion in Action award, in the family-support category, will be announced in April. Applications for future Champion in Action awards can be obtained online at www.citizensbank.com/community.
