Anti-casino citizens deny big-money backing

Posted 12/8/11

FOXBORO – Citizens mobilized against the Wynn Resorts-Patriot Place casino plan deny receiving any funding from Suffolk Downs, a potential competitor for the one casino license that is likely to become available in the Boston area, according to the Sun Chronicle.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Las Vegas casino owner Steve Wynn have been in discussions about building a casino adjacent to the football team’s Foxboro stadium and retail/entertainment complex. The discussions come as a result of the law passed by the Massachusetts legislature allowing for three casinos in the state that was signed into law by Gov. Deval L. Patrick in November.

A grassroots organization has sprung up since then, using social media and other digital connection tools to fight placing a casino in the town.
