PROVIDENCE – City planners have received preliminary plans to build a six-story apartment building on Hospital Street in the Jewelry District.
The plan, field with the Downtown Design Review Committee by Federal Hill Architects Group of Providence, would involve tearing down the existing two-story brick building at 44 Hospital Street that’s been used as restaurant and club.
The new building, opposite Lifespan’s Coro Center, would have up to four shops on the ground floor and 30 apartments on the upper floors, according to plans.
The proposal includes 16 on-site parking spaces, which would be short of the number required under city zoning code.
The architects have requested a pre-application review with the Design Review Committee, a kind of sounding board session before a formal application to undertake the project. The review is scheduled Monday, May 13.
According to assessor’s records, the 0.26-acre property at 44 Hospital Street is owned by Option B LLC. It was last valued at $798,300.
