Recent stories about the declining unemployment rate in Rhode Island have included data that indicates the state’s labor force is shrinking, which is one way to lower the jobless rate without adding any jobs.
But the state is adding jobs, and as the most recent statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate, Rhode Island’s labor force is shrinking at a rate smaller than a number of other states in New England.
Does this extra information make you think that the state is getting a bum rap for its economic performance, or is the Ocean State in as bad a situation as so much of the public discourse would have you believe?
