With the release of the report on the economic impact on Rhode Island of the America’s Cup World Series sailing event last summer, as well as the announcement that the Volvo Ocean Race will make a stop in Newport during its 2014-15 edition, the state is likely to once again visit the issue of how much to invest in racing infrastructure in Newport and the surrounding area.
However, while Newport was deemed to be sufficiently large to handle the demands of the America’s Cup World Series event, it is unclear that it will be able to do so for larger events.
The issue is, how much, if anything, should the state invest in building out the sail racing infrastructure?
