Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan signed an agreement last week to explore merging. The combined entity would look to save overhead by rationalizing operations, which would create the second-largest health insurer in Massachusetts.
While Tufts has a relatively small presence in Rhode Island, it is growing. What is not clear yet (and likely won’t be for a while), is whether post-merger, Harvard Pilgrim would try and re-enter the Ocean State market, which it exited more than a decade ago.
What do you think about whether the two insurers should merge?
