The coming of the final event of the America's Cup World Series to Newport at the end of June is seen as an opportunity for the city to reclaim at least some of its former yachting glory.

The event is also seen as a way for competitive sailing to put itself back on the sporting map by developing new fans and rekindling interest among long-dormant fans.
