Arpin VP uses weight loss for charity

WEST WARWICK – Inspired by his daughter Michaela’s courage in her battle against severe scoliosis and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Bob Sullivan, senior vice president of corporate accounts for Arpin Group, chose to embark on a personal mission to improve his health and drop 30 pounds in three months.
His weight loss challenge captured the imagination of the community and raised more than $20,000 for charity.
“Everyone here at Arpin knows the story of my daughter’s struggle with scoliosis, EDS and chronic pain, as well as the remarkable courage and strength she has displayed in the face of several major surgeries,” said Bob Sullivan. “I decided it was time to take on my own personal challenge and shed 30 pounds to get healthy and be stronger for her. But I wanted to do it in a way that would publicly display my support for Michaela and the numerous organizations that are assisting us and other families dealing with this awful disease.”
Sullivan pledged $40 for every pound he shed during the 90-day period to Arpin Strong, a fund which provides tragedy assistance to those in need throughout the world.
A portion of the proceeds were earmarked for four organizations that have provided care to Michaela and have earned a special place in the hearts of the Sullivan family. These are the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, the Coalition Against Pediatric Pain, the Ehlers Danlos National Foundation and the Curvy Girls Scoliosis Support Group.
The weight-loss journey triggered a flood of donations from friends, coworkers, suppliers and clients to support him, Michaela and their charitable causes.
By the official end of the challenge, Sullivan had met his goal and lost 30 pounds. However, the donations did not stop there and as of this writing, he has raised $20,000, far exceeding everyone’s expectations.
As donations continue to roll in, Bob has decided to lose 20 more pounds.
In a letter of thanks, Michaela Sullivan said, “Thank you all so much for donating; you are truly making a difference. I appreciate your well wishes over these past few years. You guys are great and I’m blessed to have so many people that care about me. Lastly, I’d like to send a special ‘thank you’ to my dad, Bob Sullivan, for his motivation and strength to lose the weight and help these amazing charities.”
