Artic Mission to host e-waste, shredding day

WEST WARWICK – The Artic Mission, a Christian Mission nonprofit organization, will host an electronic waste and paper shredding event to raise funds for its heating assistance program on Sept. 8 at Cardi’s Furniture stores on Quaker Lane in West Warwick and Newport Avenue in South Attleboro from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“Heat is a basic necessity. But not everyone can stretch their income when the cold weather comes to provide adequate heat for their family,” said Charles Nault, executive director of the Artic Mission, in a statement.
All raised funds, through donations given in order to shred unwanted documents and dispose of e-waste, at the event will go to help families meet their heating needs.
Last year at the “Waste for Warmth” event, more than 12,000 lbs. of electronic waste was collected and 2,000 lbs. of paper shredded.
For a $5 per item donation, participants can dispose of TV’s, window unit air conditioners, microwaves, dehumidifiers, CPU’s/computers, servers, keyboards, spare computer parts, monitors and other items. Paper shredding will be done for a donation of $0.45 per pound.
The Rhode Island Blood Center will accept blood donations at both locations. Flu shots will be administered in both locations as well.
