EAST PROVIDENCE – Aspen Aerogels, a company that specializes in energy-efficient insulation products, is expanding its East Providence facility, a $30 million project.
According to a press release from the company, this is the first step in its long-term strategy to expand production capacity, as the project – called “line 3” – will increase the facility’s capacity by 25 percent to meet growing customer demand.
Jeffrey Ball, Aspen’s vice president of engineering, said the expansion project is “the fastest and most efficient path to additional top- and bottom-line growth.”
This also will lead to hiring more production operators.
Construction has already created jobs for local contractors, steel workers, concrete workers and machine operators. Improvements are being made to the facility’s fluid handling, sewer connection, air flow and waste collection in accordance with applicable environmental, health and safety regulations, the release stated.
Aspen’s line 3 is expected to be completed by June. Aspen is headquartered in Northborough, Mass., and manufactures its Cryogel, Pyrogel and Spaceloft products in East Providence. Aerogel insulation is used mainly in large-scale energy infrastructure facilities.
