Athenaeum breaks records for yearly fundraising

PROVIDENCE – In its just concluded fiscal year the Providence Athenaeum raised $243,473 from 582 donors, breaking records as well as surpassing goals for both categories. Their dual goals were $240,000 and 525 donors.

“On behalf of all the Athenaeum staff and board members, please accept our heartfelt thanks. We are so encouraged and inspired by your enthusiastic support for the library and its collections, building, and programs,” said Matt Burriesci, executive director of the Athenaeum, in prepared remarks.

Over the past five years, the amount donated has increased by $101,791, or 71.8 percent, and the number of donors has grown by 238, or 69.2 percent.

Twenty-three percent of operations were funded by donations in fiscal 2016, which closed June 30, out of a total budget of $1.05 million.

The Providence Athenaeum is a independent, member-supported library open to the public located on 251 Benefit St. in Providence. Its current incarnation was founded in 1836.
